The release of "Greatest Misses" marks the 20th anniversary of my 1st formal release, 1995's "Three Paper Thin" (which came out on cassette!). Having run out of money on each and every one of my albums (rendering them instead EP's -recording's expensive!) & subsequently having to run with a mix or two per EP that I wasn't completely satisfied with, I wanted to put together a full-length album that I could be proud of, & which all can enjoy, from stem-to-stern. What I've wound up with is in fact a double-album, with the very best tracks drawn from my five EP's; "Three Paper Thin", "A Walk In The Park (2000), "In Between" (2008), “Ashley Newall LIVE” (2010), & "Light The Lamp" (2011).
"Greatest Misses: B-Sides" currently only available via purchasing full -physical- CasSeD™ package, available here: ashleynewall.bandcamp.com/merch/greatest-misses-cassed
This compilation also manages to encapsulate everyone I've ever recorded with, including some one-offs. That said, it's 90% the Ashley Newall Band (formed in '98, and now called Ashley Newall & the Raging Suburbanites); Adam Fogo, Brendan Allistone, & Jack MacGregor. (Neil Gerster joined in 2010 & is now also a full-fledged Raging Suburbanite.)
The double-album includes two previously unreleased mixes, one re-master, & one never-before-released demo. Many of the tracks have never before been posted online & hence will be, er, all-new to most. The idea of a best-of/best-yet greatest-hits-style album seems novel -and surprisingly highly unusual, if not downright unheard of- for an indie artist. It's been pointed out that this could be because most indie artists don't have 'hits' (ie. in the charts),.. and hence the title of this release, "Greatest Misses”!
